Any minor, age 17 or under, that is unaccompanied by a legal guardian is required to submit a medical release form for hospital treatment by a physician. The medical release form is available on-line at http://dupagesevereweather.com or on the reverse side of the printed registration form.

Friday March 5th, 2010 Severe Weather Preparedness Seminar

The Severe Weather Preparedness Seminar will be held on Friday March 5th, 2010, from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm.

Seminar highlights include:

  • Large venue safety and planning
  • Group scenario workshop
  • Chicago-area hazardous weather threats and sheltering guidelines
  • Large venue weather disasters and near misses
  • Basic radar interpretation
  • NWS; products, services and support

The National Weather Service, Chicago, will present a large venue severe weather preparedness workshop. The workshop is primarily for security and safety personnel, emergency managers, and administrators of venues and events with large public gatherings, especially outdoors. This would include sports and concert stadiums, museums and zoos, and large outdoor fairs and festivals. The information could also be useful for schools, hospitals, and businesses.

Saturday March 6th, 2010 Severe Weather Preparedness Seminar

The Advanced Weather Spotter Seminar will be held on Saturday March 6th, 2010, from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm.  Amy Freeze, Chief Meteorologist at Fox News Chicago, is back by popular demand as the program emcee.  She is one of the few women in the world with a Certified Broadcast Meteorology accreditation from the American Meteorological Society. She has Seals of Approval from both the AMS and National Weather Associationand is a two-time Emmy winner for Best Weathercaster and Outstanding Host.

The Advanced Spotter Seminar is designed to provide advanced information needed by weather spotters to identify and accurately report the formation of severe weather events.  Scheduled highlights include:

  • Basic & advanced weather spotting education & tools
  • Being a Well Prepared Spotter:  Must Have Technologies
  • Dual Polarization Radar
  • Devastating severe weather events in 2009
  • Raffle prizes
  • And much more

A speakers’ forum will conclude the session where attendees will be able to pose questions to the panel of experts about current weather-related topics.

Terms and concepts discussed in this seminar presuppose that attendees have completed basic weather spotter level training.  Completion of a basic weather spotter training course prior to attending this program is not required but is recommended.  Check out the National Weather Service Chicago website at www.weather.gov/lot for basic spotter courses in your area.

This seminar is conducted jointly by the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the National Weather Service – Chicago Forecast Office, and College of DuPage Next Generation Weather Lab (Nexlab).
